With the increasing number of road accidents caused due to intake of drugs and drink before driving, it has become important to educate people against such indulgence. Brake, a road safety organization, has decided to hold a Road Safety Week from 23^rd to 29^th November this year to ensure that people follow road safety rules.

In order to ensure a successful campaign, the organization is inviting companies to join them. According to latest research, nearly 16,000 people have died from road accidents in 2007 alone, and with drugs and drink being readily available, it is absolutely necessary for companies to endorse the theme of “Not a drop, Not a drag” as part of their company road safety policy. The charity also states that company drivers are the worst affected by hangover driving in particular.

Katie Shephard, Fundraising Manager at Brake, feels that the involvement of companies will help the message to reach out to a large number of people including staff, customers, suppliers and members of the general public. Companies can also benefit from joining this campaign as it will help augment their reputation in the market. For managers and supervisors, a NEBOSH Distance learning course from Workplace Law offers a unique web-based training platform that leads to the award of the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health.

Urging companies to participate, the organization stated that a company can choose any theme that is closest to its particular situation and can educate its staff, customers and even the public, and that this week can also be used to initiate proceedings for finalizing updated corporate policies on road safety or even giving lessons for drivers. The organization has assured its total support and help to the participating companies.
