Is it True that Gemstones Have Healing Properties?

Most people see gems purely as decoration, such as gemstone beads; that is, jewellery to wear only for aesthetic purposes. But stones are also considered to have several curing properties, such as (depending on the gemstone) the power to boost self-confidence, concentration, relieve headaches and stress, promote a calm mind, and encourage positivity.

We will cast an eye on a handful of stones and their supposed restorative properties. A disavowal before we go any further : The details of this article are grounded on common beliefs, and there is no guarantee as to the efficacy of these gems and their claimed remedial powers.

Amazonite
This stone improves self-confidence ,while giving a sense of hope to the wearer.

Haematite
A mighty gem which bestows aids willpower and strength. Effective in harmonizing the body and spirit. A grounding gemstone which represses anxiety and is claimed to prevent insomnia.

Malachite
A strong gemstone which can soak up negative energies and pollution. Effective for those under emotional stress.

Sodalite
Increases the power to communicate and comprehend others feelings. Useful for the growth of spirituality and intuition.

The above-mentioned stones are only a small pick of gems that are believed to have remedial powers. The only concrete way to realise if these gems can work for you is to wear them if you suffer from an ailment that a stone is believed to help relieve.

Vistas

The other day I found myself frustrated with the slow progress on my new project. Other people involved, subcontractors, just ‘weren’t getting it’. Why couldn’t they just see what needed to be done and do it? Why was everything taking so long?

I decided that the best thing for me to do was take a breather, so I went with my dog, Sultain, for a hike up the mountainside. As I am huffing and puffing up a 1000 feet of climb, even the dog is panting, I am mentally reviewing the ‘to do’ list I have to get through for the launch of seLFTech. It is clear to me that I am not going to make the self-imposed deadline of the end of January because of delays caused by other people.

Then suddenly, it occurs to me that I am falling into the trap of assessing blame instead of accepting responsibility. I am also allowing anger and resentment to prevent me from enjoying this moment.

Here I am, with my dog, going for our favorite walk up the side of a mountain to a spectacular vista and I am not even mentally present. What a waste! So, I make the effort and clear my mind to focus on just enjoying the moment.

Suddenly, a little ditty starts playing in my mind. Usually this kind of thing is an annoyance; some stupid ad jingle or meaningless song lyric that won’t go away. This time, this is what I have going on in that tape loop…

“Climb every mountain, search high and low
Follow every byway, every path you know.
Climb every mountain, ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow, till you find your dream!”

Now, I recognize that tune, but I cannot place it. It is kind of funny that it shows up just now and I appreciate the irony. It makes me smile and I wonder if my subconscious has a sense of humor. I am still attempting to place the song when we get to the top of our climb.

I stop and take in the incredible vista; gazing across the two mile wide valley to admire the 4,500 foot peak across the valley. Suddenly it clicks and I start to laugh. Yes, my subconscious does have a sense of humor.

There is the picture, clear as this day, of Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music, singing atop a hill in the Alps with vast peaks across the valley,

“Climb every mountain, search high and low
Follow every byway, every path you know.
Climb every mountain, ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow, till you find your dream!

“A dream that will need
all the love you can give,
Every day of your life
for as long as you live.

“Climb every mountain, ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow, till you find your dream!”

It has been at least 35 years since I watched that movie. It is surely odd that those Rogers and Hammerstein lyrics should show up just now as I am climbing my mountain and also struggling uphill to get done what needs doing in my business world. Serendipity, to be sure.

Now, there is the perspective, the vista I made this climb to enjoy. It is breathtaking. The view from the top of this peak to an even greater peak I may someday also climb.

I had almost forgotten to enjoy this climb. Silly, silly me. Half the pleasure is in getting there. The struggle is often what makes the accomplishment all the more enjoyable.

This regular climb is what helps keep me physically fit. The continuous climb to the peaks of accomplishment helps keep me mentally and emotionally fit. Each step along the way is a victorious moment. Each moment is a fulfillment of my date with destiny.

It’s The Little Things That Count

Have you ever been in the situation where you have become so focussed on achieving a goal that you have done so at the detriment of everything else in your life?

The ‘All or Nothing’ Syndrome

In a coaching session I had with one of my clients this week, he realised that to complete the goal he wanted to achieve by the end of September, that he has totally neglected every other area of his life.

He has fallen into the ‘all or nothing’ syndrome. He has put all his eggs in the one basket. While he’s been pursuing this goal he hasn’t paid attention to anything else. His health and well-being has suffered and so has his relationships.

It’s important to get some perspective and ‘balance’ in your life. You can become so focussed on achievement that you miss the little things…and before you know it, the little things become major problems.

We Don’t Stumble Over Mountains

“We don’t stumble over mountains.” It seems we stumble over small things mostly.

Serious problems seem to begin with small things, and often at early ages. Homes, families, marriages are broken often by little things, annoyances, small acts of thoughtlessness, lack of courtesy and consideration, lack of honesty in little things - small falsehoods, small deceptions in accounting for time or money. The breaking point may add up to something major and dramatic, but leading to it are small steps: inconsideration, irritations, indiscretions.

Sometimes people protest their love and loyalty and offer to do almost anything to make amends, but leave the little things undone. There are those who profess they would lay down their lives, but who won’t serve or sacrifice in the small day-to-day duties and discipline. Some have the all or nothing attitude. But life isn’t like that. Those who insist on all or nothing are likely to have little or less.

The years are made of minutes. Much of life is made of memories, warm and happy memories of small kindnesses and consideration, of courtesy, of constancy, consistency; a mother’s attentive care, a father’s kindliness, a child’s thankfulness; thoughtfulness each day, not grand and rare and obvious outward acts - not all at once, but small and constant ways as each occasion comes.

If we want happiness with loved ones, and peace, and quiet conscience, we need to learn the little lessons, the small services, the continuing kindnesses, the habitual acts of honesty, the constancy of cleanliness - not just one big washing.

“We don’t stumble over mountains.” We stumble over small things mostly.

The Final Word

Allocate time each day to handle some of the little things in your life. As mentioned in previous newsletters, put yourself in your diary first. Plan time to action your goals…step by step, day by day. As Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon said “One small step for man, one great leap for mankind”.

Have you exhausted your means? No!

Think on this, just when you think you’ve exhausted your know how, something happens.

  • Let me explain…

A whiff of strength comes from somewhere. To some it’s from the unknown. But most know there’s no such thing. It’s a supernatural endurance giving to you from the only source of All Strength.

What to do next, you ask?

  • Take Inventory: List your accomplishments.

    A. From smallest to greatest activities that have allowed you to grow. Rate and evaluate your strengths and weaknesses that affect your goals.

  • You definitely have not exhausted your means; you’ve only just begun to touch the surface of what you can become!

    Again, I’ll explain:

Are there still things, which you desire to accomplish? If so that is a sign to you that you have the ability to achieve them while you still have breath in you.

    a. Envision yourself in the midst of your triumph. You must first be able to see it before you can achieve.

    b. Write down daily updates of your short-term goals. Then check them off the list as you complete them.

    c. Find some resources to support your goals.

    d. There are maps and blueprints for everything under the sun. (It’s probably been done before.)

    e. The closer you get to achieving goals see how you can put your own spin on it. Create a mural with the distinction of your own-originality attached to it.

    f. Seek out help don’t be afraid to reach out to someone who have achieved the level of success you wish to obtain.

***Some people are put in our lives to help us, guide us and support us. Utilize the gifts God has place in the hands of others. ****

If someone special is put in your life it’s usually his or her pleasure to lend a helping hand…

Take Inventory every so often so you can visualize your impeding outcome. Stop wasting time, go forth and claim your inheritance.
